Cambodia, Indonesia's Rajawali to set up airline

(Reporting by Nury Sybli, writing by Tyagita Silka, editing by Sugita Katyal) - JAKARTA, April 10 - The Cambodian government and Indonesia's Rajawali Corporation agreed on Thursday to set up a new national flag airline to serve Cambodia's growing tourism industry, the company said in a statement.

The joint-venture company's capital is estimated to reach $50 million and the Cambodian government will own 51 percent while Rajawali Group will own the rest.

"With a national flag carrier, we envisage our economy and tourism industry will grow rapidly," Cambodia's Deputy Prime Minister, Sok An, said in the statement released by Rajawali.

Cambodia launched its own national flag carrier, Royal Air Cambodge , in the mid-1990s but it went bankrupt, resulting in heavy losses for the government.

The new carrier, however, might have a better chance due to the rising number of tourists to Cambodia. In 2007, the country attracted more than 2 million tourists and more than 60 percent of them used air travel.

The number of tourist arrivals in 2007 rose almost 19 percent from the previous year and air travel increased more than 25 percent, according to the tourism minister on the official Web site http://www.mot.gov.kh.

Rajawali was founded by Indonesian entrepreneur Peter Sondakh, ranked by Globe Asia magazine as 19th wealthiest Indonesian with a net worth of $510 million. The group controls diversified businesses from a cement firm to department stores and a taxi company.

It holds an around 25 percent stake in Semen Gresik , Indonesia's largest cement maker. Rajawali also founded the country's third-largest mobile phone firm before selling its stake to Telekom Malaysia and Emirates Telecommunications .

Govt steps up after landslide

CHOR SOKUNTHEAR Passersby watch recovery efforts at the site of a landslide on the bank of the Tonle Sap, north of the Cambodian Japanese Friendship Bridge, April 2. The government will provide replacement housing for the victims of the April 1 riverbank collapse that cast 39 stilt houses into the waters of the Tonle Sap, according to local authorities. The landslide in Sammaky village of Russey Keo district, about 6km north of Phnom Penh, occurred at 2:50pm on Tuesday and left 61 families temporarily homeless. Although authorities at first feared fatalities, most of the houses were unoccupied at the time of the incident and there were few reported injuries. “No one was hurt in my family,” said a 23-year-old woman who survived the landslide. “We just lost a lot ofproperty. We don’t know how much yet.” Dang Sophanna, assistant Chief Commander of the Royal Cambodian Navy in Phnom Penh, said that two young people suffered head injuries in the landslide, but that more serious harm was averted by the quick action of the authorities. “The navy was later on the scene than the police but [we] saved several people from the water,” he told the Post. The Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, Lim Kean Hor, denied the collapse had been caused by the extraction of sand from the river, saying the landslip was the result of poor building foundations. Survivors are currently being housed near the site of the collapse and fed by commune authorities until alternate land is made available by the government, according to Tieng Sophal, a Russey Keo commune councilor. “His Excellency Kep Chutema (Governor of Phnom Penh) has promised to provide new land in Dangkor district for those whose houses collapsed into the river,” she said. Russey Keo District Governor Khleang Huort expressed his sympathy for the homeless and confirmed that the municipal government had plans to provide new land in Dangkor district. “The police are counting currently estimating the value of the property lost in the disaster,” he said. However, Huort warned that nearby stilt houses were in danger of further landslides and urged the governor to speed up plans for their relocation. “I’m afraid the land of some nearby people will also collapse,” he said. Phok Kheoun, 52, who was at home at the time of the incident, said he lost all his possessions when the ground gave way. “I managed to grab my children and grandchildren just in time. But I lost everything. “I was very glad when I heard the announcement that the government would give us new land in Dangkor district,” he said.

Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs urges lawmakers from all three major political parties to help educate Khmer workers so that they won't end up working illegally in Thailand.

The announcement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is a response to the request from opposition lawmaker Keo Remy who wrote a letter to Minister Hor Nam Hong asking him to negotiate with Thailand to legalize over ten thousands Khmer workers in the country.

In a letter to Keo Remy, Hor Nam Hong said the rights of Khmer workers are violated when they are duped by middlemen to work in Thailand illegally.

According to the Cambodian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, 2,590 Cambodians are currently jailed in Thailand.

Recently, Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to allow Khmer workers who are working illegally to return back to their country, and proposed for the migrant workers to come back into Thailand when they established legal working rights with companies recognized by the Cambodian government.

Keo Remy welcomes the efforts of the Cambodian government but expresses concerns about more than ten thousands others workers who are working there illegally.

Mrs. Pung Chieu Gek, director of human rights NGO and LICADHO, says that one of the Cambodian government responsibilities is to negotiate with Thailand to issue legal work permits to all Khmer workers.

Indian navy ships arrive in Cambodia for friendship visit

Phnom Penh - Indian naval staff began a five-day goodwill visit to Cambodia, the governor of the south-western port city of Sihanoukville said Tuesday. He said the 180-metre long INS Jyoti, a replenishment vessel, and 92-metre long INS Kora arrived Monday and would embark on a series of exercises with Cambodia's navy during the visit. Officers and crew would also spearhead a blood donation drive, visit orphanages and compete in a friendly volleyball tournament. It is not the first visit of INS Jyoti, which first docked at the country's only deepwater port, 240 kilometres from the capital, on a similar mission in June 2006. The European Union approved cell phone calling for commercial airline flights Monday, but the French and the Germans immediately were at loggerheads on the issue. Air France has already introduced onboard cell phone service while Germany's Lufthansa said its customers don't want the service.

The EU plan would enable passengers to use cell phone voice service over base stations situated on airplanes once flights have reached an altitude of 10,000 feet. "In-flight mobile phone services can be a very interesting new service, especially for those business travelers who need to be ready to communicate wherever they are," said EU telecommunications commissioner Viviane Reding, according to media reports.

Reding, who has long pressured cell phone service providers to lower their roaming rates, immediately served notice that if pricing for in-flight calls is too high, providers will hear from the EU.

Air France began testing cell phone service, using OnAir's SwiftBroadband, on some of its flights last week. OnAir, a unit of European aircraft manufacturer Airbus, has pioneered the service in Europe. In-flight cell phone voice service in the United States has been stalled because consumers, the FCC, and airline companies have been lukewarm to the use of cell phones by passengers during flights.

Cell phone voice service on planes is unlikely to become a widespread reality soon. Already Lufthansa has indicated it doesn't want to use the service, although the German airline has said it wants to offer Internet access for its passengers. The airline had offered the service in the past and passengers indicted they liked it.

Yahoo (NSDQ: YHOO) on Monday turned the tables on Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT), claiming it is Redmond that's holding up negotiation of a possible merger between the two companies.

In a letter to Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang and chairman Roy Bostock took issue with Ballmer's complaint that meetings between the two companies have not led to meaningful discussions.

"Steve, you personally attended two of these meetings and could have advanced discussions as you saw fit," Yang and Bostock said.

The pair was responding to a letter Ballmer sent to Yahoo's board on Saturday, in which he chastised Yahoo's management for inaction on Microsoft's $31-per-share bid for the company. Ballmer said Microsoft would seek to replace Yahoo's board through a hostile proxy contest if the deal isn't accepted within three weeks.

In their response, the Yahoo executives said Ballmer needs to show some flexibility for merger talks to proceed further. "Your comment that we have refused to enter into negotiations to conclude an agreement are particularly curious given we have already rejected your initial proposal," the pair wrote.

Microsoft also has been dragging its feet on producing legal work they need to fully evaluate the proposed deal, Yang and Bostock said.

"We provided you on March 28 a list of additional information we would need to further our understanding of the regulatory issues associated with any transaction. To date, you have still not provided any of the requested information," the Yahoo executives wrote.

Yang and Bostock said they haven't budged in their belief that Microsoft's offer undervalues Yahoo. "We continue to believe that your proposal is not in the best interests of Yahoo and our stockholders," the pair wrote.

The dueling missives are the latest indication that Microsoft's bid for Yahoo could become a drawn-out affair harmful to both companies. Microsoft's stock price is down about 10% since the day before it announced its proposal to buy out Yahoo on Feb. 1.

Yahoo shares are up 45% over the same period, but have fallen 5% since the offer was first disclosed.

Yahoo has been forced to take extraordinary, and potentially costly, measures to keep employees from heading for the exits. Among other things, the company recently said that employees who are axed within two years of "a change in control" will receive between four months and two years of regular pay as severance.

As for Microsoft, a proxy fight with Yahoo could prove costly.

To win such a contest, Microsoft would have to convince Yahoo shareholders to vote for a new board of directors that would be friendly to the transaction at Yahoo's next annual meeting -- most likely in May.

Various estimates put the cost of directly soliciting Yahoo shareholders, and associated legal fees, at between $20 million and $30 million.

In their letter to Ballmer, Yang and Bostock said Yahoo is open to an offer from Microsoft "if it represents a price that fully recognizes the value of Yahoo on a standalone basis."

Targeted traffic is just people who are interested in what your website is promoting. The best way I know of to get targeted traffic fast is google adwords. When you use google adwords you pay for every visitor that clicks on your ad and goes to your site. This is generally known as pay per click or ppc advertising. There are also many other ways for other people doing affiliate marketing to earn commissions but the fastest way to get started is using adwords. This can also be the easiest way to lose money fast if you don't know what your doing. The best resource to learn about using google to make money online in my opinion is Google Cash. Another great source of information is Adwords Miracle. Now I would like to share some tips for getting the most out of google adwords.

1. Start off keeping bids very low. Better to have fewer clicks and sales than to lose a lot of money.

2. Turn off content match. It doesn't convert to sales well. If you do decide to have content match on keep content bids very low (1/3 of search bids or less).

3. Keep daily budgets low. I recommend $5 a day at most starting a campaign to see if it will be profitable.

4. Instead of advertising on google everywhere think about targeting certain countries. It saved me a lot of money once I started targeting my ads to certain countries.

5. Break your ads up into small groups and make separate ads for simaler keywords.

6. Put [brackets] around your keywords. You will get fewer clicks but your keywords will get matched exactly by google. If you don't use brackets you ads could show up for keywords you might not want google to match on.

7. Test different ads. Google will give preference to ads that get clicked more often and the ads will get clicked more will cost less per click. Keep the ads that do well and the ones with low clickthrough rates should be deleted.

8. Your keywords should be well chosen and specific. General keywords like music will get you a lot of traffic but won't convert to sales as well as specific keywords.

9. You can have google place your keywords right in your ad titles for you automatically. It's called dynamic keyword insertion. Basically when you make your ad title you type in {keyword:default}. In place of default you put a title to use when your keywords are too long for google to put in. Dynamic keyword insertion is a powerful tool that will get more clickthroughs for your ads and higher conversions to sales. The only drawback of dynamic keyword insertion is that the price per click increases.

10. If your clickthrough rates on your ad campaigns aren't at least 1% I would recommend changing the ad or deleting certain keywords in the ad group with a low clickthrough rate. The higher your clickthrough rate the better your ad is performing and ad costs will be less.

11. The more you can think like people who are searching for the products you are promoting the better you will be able to make your ads and keywords.

12. The tricky part of adwords is that you want your ads to stand out and get people to click on them but at the same time there are also people you don't want clicking your ads. First thing you want to discourage are "freebie seekers". These people will click your ads thinking they will get something for free and will never buy anything from your ads. To discourage freebie seekers I recommend doing 2 things.
First of all you the word free should not be put in an ad.
Secondly you should put the price of the the product you are promoting in the ad, preferably right in the title. This will drive up your per click costs and give you less traffic but you will get the traffic that's more serious about buying the product your'e marketing.

13. Whenever possible ad campaign performance should be tracked to see how your ads and keywords are performing. Google provides a publisher id number that can be used with many affiliate programs. When you include your publisher id in the url that you send your traffic to you will get back inportant information such as which keywords are getting the sales, what your sales conversion ratio is and cost per sale. this ad tracking information can be used to increase profits on your campaigns by allowing you to delete keywords that don't make any sales.

14. I've found that advertising on google exclusively and not on the entire google network has brought the greatest return on my campaigns.Advertising in google adwords can be a great way to make money online. Wireless Networks: How Do They Work?

Wireless networks use radio waves instead of wires to transmit data between computers.
It's well known that computers transmit information digitally, using binary code: ones and zeros. This translates well to radio waves, since those 1s and 0s can be represented by different kinds of beeps. These beeps are so fast that they're outside the hearing range of humans.
It works like Morse code, which is a way to transmit the alphabet over radio waves using dots (short beeps) and dashes (long beeps). Morse code was used manually for years via telegraph to get information from 1 place to another very quickly. More importantly for this example, though, it is a binary system, just as a computer system is.
Wireless networking, then, can be thought of as a Morse code for computers. You plug in a combined radio receiver and transmitter, and the computer is able to send out its equivalent of dots and dashes (bits, in computer-speak) to get your data from here to there.
Wavelengths And Frequencies
You might wonder how the computer can send and receive data at high speed without becoming garbled nonsense. The key to wireless networking is how it gets around this problem.
First, wireless transmissions are sent at very high frequencies, which allows more data to be sent per second. Most wireless connections use a frequency of 2.4 gigahertz (2.4 billion cycles per second) -- a frequency similar to mobile phones and microwave ovens. However, this high frequency produces a wavelength that is
very short, which is why wireless networking is effective only over short distances.
Wireless networks also use a technique called "frequency hopping." They use dozens of frequencies, and constantly switch among them. This makes wireless networks more immune to interference from other radio signals than if they transmitted on a single frequency.
Internet Access Points
The final step for a wireless network is to provide internet access for every computer on the network. This is done by a special piece of wireless equipment called an access point. An access point is more expensive than a wireless card for 1 computer, because it contains radios capable of communicating with around 100 computers, sharing internet access among them. Dedicated access points are necessary only for larger networks. With only a few computers, it is possible to use 1 of them as the access point, or to use a wireless router.

Wireless equipment from different manufacturers can work together to handle these complex communications because there are standards which guide the production of all wireless devices. These standards are technically called the 802.11. Because of industry compliance with these standards, wireless networking is both easy to use and affordable today.
